Random Photos

I LOVE this pic of Jamie (even if he looks like, well such a big kid in it!)

Just hangin' out...

Tom always said he wanted to be in the spotlight.

No more SCA for me

Ok, so I gave it the old "College Try." I think 3 weeks of looking into it gives me a pretty good idea of what they are about. And now I know it really isn't for me.

First off: They say newcomers are welcome. But let me tell ya, the "Welcomer" guy they have is the most anti-social person I've ever met. I had to ask around for 2 weeks before I even found out who he was and guess what: I met him my first day...he just didn't tell me who he was.

Second: They say you can take it at your own pace, do as little or as much as you want. But if you aren't 100% behind it, forget it. To get anything out of SCA your looking at THREE 2 to 4 hours meetings a week. Plus whatever guilds you might be interested in.

Third: Money. I don't know about you, but I just can't dish out $300 for a couple of swords. Then you need armor and other equipment. Jeez..by the time your done you could have put a decent downpayment on a car.

Fourth and Finally: Its just confusing. I mean, they say,"Hey, you meet James yet?" I say nope, sure haven't. Guess what? I DID meet James...only his name was Ralph. Very confusing. And if you use the wrong name at the wrong time, WATCH OUT!!!

So, my interest in the SCA has waned away. I still need to find SOMETHING to do.

Any suggestions?

Talaq! Talaq! Talaq!

Husband or wife on your nerves? Want to get a divorce but don't want the costly attorneys? Do I have the answer for you!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060327/od_nm/india_religion_dc

Hehehehehee....

So...what does Tom like?

In response to Candy's "looking for friends" post below, we've gotten a few of these: We know what Candy likes...but what about Tom? Will he 'play well' with my hubby?"

So, here it is. The pretty much all-inclusive list of Tom's Likes and Dislikes. (Note: I removed anything I put in about the kids as this is supposed to be a Tom's List, not a Daddy's List. Trust me, the kids factor into every categorie.)

Movies:

Like: Star Wars, LotR, just about any sci-fi or fantasy. (Battlestar Gallatica Series on Sci-Fi!!)
Dis-like: Step-mom, Sisterhood of the travelling anything, tear jerkers, "chick flicks"

Food:
Like: Meat, corn, potatoes. Side salad is nice. Just about anything that used to walk on 4 legs and can be grilled.
Dis-like: cauliflower, brocolli, gourds. Just about anything green and leafy that isn't lettuce and any vegetable that isn't corn.

Games:
Like: Any type of table-top game you can imagine. Foozball to D&D, Trivial pursuit to Warhammer 40k. I like games.
Dis-like: Sports. Sorry....sports suck.

Music:
Like: Just about anything except....
Dis-like: Whiny female vocalists from the late 80's and early 90's

Building Stuff:
Like: Just about anything...computer programming to playscapes, shelving to bicycles. I'm not the best, but I still enjoy it.
Dis-like: REBUILDING things because somebody else broke them. Especially prebuilt kits that never go back together as well.

So, what is Tom doing these days?

Well, when I'm not working I am either mapping out this new computer game I want to program (website coming soon...), or playing with the kids I'm pretty much busy being bored.

I also like watching anime series. I'm currently watching Haunted Junction...subtitles only..ugh..but still pretty funny.

So anyways, that is "Tom in a Nutshell".

Note: I edited out the stuff about the SCA...I've made a new post to explain the reason behind that.

Sunday Six: Vacations & Sleep Overs

Each week Kelly gives us six questions to ask our kids. I video tape mine because I like to be different (and Jamie has to elaborate on EVERYTHING)... enjoy! And yes, I know I sound horrible, I'm sick! Yuck.

Lunar Golf???

We were at Lakeline Mall today and were roaming around. Tom and I specifically tried to avoid going downstairs from the movie theater because that's where the Inflatable Wonderland place... er... was. They've apparently moved over by Sears and Build-A-Bear.

Anyway, so we accidently walk by and are lulled by all the glowing coming from that corner. This is the coolest thing. It's pitch black with black lights. It's like cosmic bowling, only cooler. Lunar Golf! Being a Saturday, or course the place was packed to the gills, so we'll go back during the week in the next few weeks and check it out. Way cool!

This made me realize though, we seriously need a "family" to be friends with. I remember growing up that we had other families that we all liked and hung out with. We don't have that yet. We have friends of mine, who either aren't married or their husband's never tag along to stuff so Tom never really connects with them. Or there are people that Tom likes and I don't connect with them for one reason or another. Or their kids are too little for mine to play with or their kids or too old to want to play with my kids. *LOL* We need a dating service or something :p

**A-hem** "Family seeks other family for occassional outtings and barbeques. Must be liberal in politics, laughs and fun..."

What I mean, is how fun would something like that be to invite an entire other family along, someone for me to talk to, Tom to talk to, the kids to play together. People to have over to dinner on-the-fly without it being weird.

Okay, now I just sound psycho.

Maybe they don't fight ALL the time...

Okay, so sometimes they can be downright cute!

I need to remember these times for car trips:
"Momma, Jamie's touching me"
"Momma, Cassie's looking out my window"
"Momma, Jamie looked at me"
"Momma, Cassie's breathing my air"

Maybe I won't sell them on the black market after all...

Oh, The Tangled Web We Weave...

She did it! No... he did it! No... she did it! No... he did it!

Welcome to my world, my friends. I know this is typical sibling behavior, but seriously, sometimes I think we should each only be allowed to have ONE child so they can't blame each other.

We have started letting Cassie sleep on the sofa because we are moving next month and they will have their own rooms. Jamie tortures the poor child at night... whispering "you're scared, Cassie, you should get up and tell Mommy" or worse, throwing toys at her until she comes screaming into the living room.

We get them down tonight and Jamie does NOT want to go to sleep (granted, I know it seems unfair that Cassie doesn't have to sleep in her bed, but still). After about 15 minutes he comes in with one of those kid's lip balms. Cassie "won" this at Chuck E Cheese at a birthday party and she just adores this thing. In it, is a My Little Pony hair brush. Yes, folks, someone dug into the lip balm. Jamie comes out and declares Cassie did it, of course Cassie says that Jamie did it. I don't know who did it, but it's freaking bed time already.

But, there's more at play here. If Cassie did it, okay, she shouldn't have, but it's her stuff to destroy. BUT if Jamie did it, he needs to learn to take responsibility for his actions. I had this whole thing planned out where he'd have to use his allowance to buy her a new one (hey, I thought it was pretty smart, punishment to fit the crime). So he's crying that he didn't do it and I take him into his room to talk about it.

First he tells me Joey did it. Yes, Joey is back. For those of you that don't know, Joey is his invisible friend since he was about 3, and as Jamie says, "Joey does all the bad stuff". Personally, I think my kid may have a split personality, but that's beside the point. After I explain to him why Joey couldn't have done it, he gets really quiet and tells me that a bug did it. He then goes into this elaborate story of how the bug was in the green bowl and drug the brush over to the lip balm... etc etc. You get the point. By the time he was done, the bug was like 2 foot tall. No, I'm not kidding. I try to talk to him to explain to him that it's obviously not true. He's obviously telling a fib.

So, basically he's standing by that story. Cryingly refusing to admit that he did it. Refuses to say anything else. It was a 2 foot tall bug that did it. Period. So, he's obviously lying or trying to cover for Cassie, if she did it. Here I am, trying to figure out what to do now. I mean, I want to get through to him that he can't destroy his sister's property because something is happening that he doesn't like, but HOW do I do that when I can't get him to own up to the lie?

... and people wonder why I'm so crazy...

For the record...

Okay, just in case anyone visits here and thinks I'm being some mean, hateful wife, I have to say that most people that know me know that I'm just giving Tom hell about the gift thing. His heart was in the right place, and that's what matters :p He gives me way more than just some material gift and that's what matters most.

Tom is a great husband, father and partner. No one else in their right mind would put up with me and my smart-assed mouth. Since things have ramped up for our business, he's really stepped up to the plate, taking care of the kids when I'm stressed out under a deadline. He cooks (oh man, everyone should try his salmon recipes... I could die happy with his lemon caper salmon!), he cleans up, he takes on entering things for OffAssist, he's learning accounting, going to school, playing with the kids, doing projects around the house - just ask him, I have a never ending list of "honey-dos". He's super-dad and my hero.

I love this picture. This is so who he is at heart. All snugged up with his little ones.

So there. I love you, Tom, and I'm sorry I gave you such a hard time - well, kinda ;)

The gifts just keep on coming...

LINK - Tom came home with this. It was "on sale" and Jamie wanted to get it for me... yeah...

Once again, honey, I point out... I HAVE A WISHLIST if you insist on getting a gift.

This game is so popular it doesn't even have a photo I can steal from anywhere.
(EDIT: There wasn't a picture on Amazon before, but now there is... I'm losing my mind, apparently)

*laugh*
Help.

EDIT: okay, he redeemed himself a little. Apparently after the "remote controlled video card" he got me (which sold on eBay... woohoo!) he ordered a couple of small "make up" gifts... they came today... :) :) :) A Queen CD and a book on my beloved Treo, Morris (yes, his name is Morris)

Yum! Fried Pies!

So, last night, Tom decided to make some fried apple pies. Well, actually, a few days ago he decided to make homemade apple pie (I LOVE apples, LOVE them, but I can't eat them raw, it's some weird allergy). Anyway, so he made the filling, but didn't have time to figure out a crust. So he finds this recipe for apple fritters.

Let me say that Tom is a great cook, but he doesn't have ANY common sense. I mean that, he is super book smart, but he has the common sense of a doorknob. I look up and he's frying them in a wok full of oil - I look at it and just kinda shrug knowing he's gonna make a mess. 2 minutes later, the smoke detector starts blaring (did I mention this was at 11pm when the kids were sleeping?). So, I grab the broom to fan the thing while he opens the windows. I tell him to please do it in a sauce pan... can you guess which are which?
They were REALLY GOOOOOD though (he'll need to cook the apples a little more because I still had to chug a little liquid Benedryl so my throat wouldn't close up *laugh*). The pastry was PERFECT - so light and just... YUM! I want cherry ones next time... yum!

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, we know... they aren't healthy... whatever.

The Sunday Six - St. Patrick's Day...

Kelly posts these questions and I thought this week sounded fun so I took video.

Video Sharing at DropShots.com

I crack up at how self-assured Jamie is in his answers. *laugh*
A shamROCK must be some type of STONE; the word Irish leads him to Irish Gold which apparently goblins have; and of course a lucky charm is a cereal.

I have no clue myself what "Erin Go Braugh" is...

EDIT: Okay, I googled it because it was driving me crazy. Erin Go Bragh is loosely translated as "Ireland Forever" which makes me think of Frank McCourt's books - his father was a nutcase.. nevermind. Ignore me.

Good ole Jamie

The other night, bedtime was bad. No, really, I mean it B-A-D.

Most nights, the kids are a little excited. We usually give them a bath right before bed. I've read that for some kids, this is a "calming time". For ours, well, if WWIII started while they are in the bathtub, I doubt we would notice.

This night was worse.

Jamie got straight into bed, which I thought was odd. But hey, I'll take what I can get. Cassie started out ok. We read our books. But she wanted another book. We've been down this road, so I put my foot down and put her in bed.

She kicked....and screamed...and kicked....and screamed. Time seems to CRAWL during scenes like this. 45 minutes later, she is STILL kicking and screaming "I NOT stay bed...I NOT!!!".

Suddenly, I felt a light pressure against my shoulder. I turned, and there was Jamie with those big old eyes. He looked at me with his head slightly cocked and said in a very calm, non-chalant manner:

"Daddy, Cassie is crazy."

He then turned around and went right to sleep. Wow....I still don't know quite how to respond to that. Simple..sweet...to the point,"Cassie is crazy."

45 minutes later, a change of the guard from Mommy to Daddy and back again, and our "Precious Angel" finally went to sleep.

Well Jamie, Cassie may be crazy. But I think that she just got there slightly before the rest of us.

Jamie's Game & Cassie's Pony Ride

They WON! They WON! Jamie's team rarely wins. This is only their second win this season. In fact, they won to the same team last month, but Jamie wasn't there to celebrate because he was at Cassie's birthday party. He was so proud of himself. He's also getting a LOT better. He actually got the ball, ran (and dribbled) all the way down the court this morning and passed it to another player. A LOT better! Here he is by the scoreboard :-) Yes, I am totally kicking myself for not bringing my real camera. This shot with my phone will have to do...

The game was in Georgetown and then we had to take a trek much further South...

We went to the Excalibur Renaissance Festival today in Lockhart. Talk about miserable! It was hot... so freaking HOT. You pay to get in and there's nothing really going on. There was someone playing Celtic music and a play. That was it. We didn't stay long, the kids were burning up and so ready to get out of there. They were miserable (and Jamie kept asking about the freaks in costumes... I mean it's not Halloween, so I think he was confused). Poor Tom, he was really looking forward to going. Apparently, this isn't the one he was expecting. By the time we got in the car, cooled of, took the kids out to Pizza Hut, we were all just exhausted so we came home. The highlight of the trip was Cassie actually riding a miniature pony! I didn't think she'd actually let them move with her on it, but she did! And, yes, being the overprotective Mommy that I am, I made Tom walk along with her. Jamie, of course, wanted nothing to do with that! I got video, of course, I didn't have my camera, so the quality is lousy, but hey... it's something!

Video Sharing at DropShots.com

I have NO idea why there's no sound (or why a 12 second video is now 4 seconds)... it took an act of congress just to get the freaking video off of my phone, converted to something I could use, blah blah blah... I need Advil after that ordeal!

PS - That fabulous "Remote Controlled Video Card" featured earlier this month - yeah, the weird birthday gift, is now available on eBay - get it while it's hot! *giggle*

Are You KIDDING Me?!?!?

I'm so over this apartment right now. So, Tom is doing this dishes tonight around 7pm, not running any water or the dishwasher, just loading plates into the dishwasher. He turns around because he hears that burping noise and guess what? Yes, folks, the sink started backing up AGAIN! This time it was only on one side (the disposal side) and he caught it before it started to get to the smelly part (if we catch it early enough and turn on the disposal it sucks it back down). Seriously, these are pretty nice apartments, it looks like they could find a freaking plumber that could fix the problem.

Ugh. So I emailed the manager. Again. I'm so glad we are moving soon. I'm actually afraid to leave the apartment in case the sink starts to bubble and no one is here to catch it! It peeves me off that this has been going on for a year and they still don't know what the problem is. Every time they come out, they say "oh, fixed it" and... well, you know the rest.

I need a drink.

Online Schooling

For those of you that don't know, soon after we closed LAN's Edge I began taking online college courses. I really didn't know what to expect. When I was in the Navy, a "remote course" as they were called then, meant buying what books you could at the local book store and buying the rest online. Then, you had to take the course via mail. If there was a quiz, you had to have a "certified" monitor watch you take it. I wasn't really looking forward to all the bs, but I knew I wanted to get my degree.

So I got signed up for classes from Axia Online. It is a fully owned subsidiary of Phoenix University. Turns out, all my books are in .pdf format and I use "old school" news groups to participate in class and turn in assignments. I can call my instructors at their 1-800 number, and all my quizzes are done through a website. All-in-all pretty nifty.

You take your classes in 2 course "blocks". Each block lasts 9 weeks. The downside is, there is no break between blocks. Not even for summer. But because you only take 2 courses at a time, the work load is not too much and I can easily schedule it into working with Candy. Also, they try to match your courses up so that they go together. A good example is my last course block which I'll mention in a second. Truth be told, if I had known it was like this, I would have started my courses while I was working at LAN's Edge. As "They" say,"Hindsight is 20/20."

Well, I just finished my first course block two weeks ago. I took COM110 (Persuasive Writing) and IT101 (Intro to Online Research). Together I spent an average of about 10 hours a week on the two classes. Today I got my combined grade: 4.0!!!

Not bad for being out of the education pipeline for 13 years. I know the first two courses are supposed to be easy, but I was really just happy to get through it all. In the beginning I had about 30 people in both classes. At the end...only 10 of us were left standing.

Now here I am 2 weeks into my next course block. I can already tell its getting harder. I have a 2500 word persuasive essay due in 7 more weeks. Its a good thing that my writing course is tied to a course in "Critical Thinking" this time around. The two really go well together.

So far, I've had a great experience in my online course. I'd recommend it to anyone with a little extra time available that wants to get their degree. Or maybe work on getting a higher one.

BTW: I'm going for my degree in Business Marketing. I figured I had the work experience, I should have the paper to back it up.

A funny commercial...

E sent this to me and well, it's just too freaking funny not to share!

We're Moving!!

Yay! We've been really fed up with apartment living for a while now. Our upstairs neighbors are obviously a herd of elephants. There's no way that actual people can make this much noise. We've mentioned it to the leasing office in the past, but they've basically blown it off, we were told once "well, I'm sure it's not that bad, you guys have kids, I'm sure they are noisey too" Ummm... yeah. But anyone that's spent any real time in our apartment can attest that the upstairs neighbors are just horrible. I swear, it's a family of elephants, that's the only explanation. That and a continuing sink problem that never seems to get fixed. ANYWAY... so we found a house to rent. It's so perfect for what we were looking for - it's creepy, really, it's like the house was built just for us. The price is right and it has great schools. Jamie starts school next year and I was really unhappy with where he was going to go. It's right across the street, basically, from Lakeline Mall (which has the bouncy play place which the kids LOVE), so it's "way North", but let's face it, we work out of our home offices, it doesn't really matter, as long as a courier will deliver there, it's all good. Jamie will be going to Purple Sage elementary school in Round Rock ISD.

So we signed the new lease tonight and I took some pictures, of course. They still need to paint and do some other work, but here ya go...

This is the living room. I think when we walked in and I saw this I knew immediately I would want this house. Lookit those bookshelves! I know my bookcrossing friends are going "so what", but that's a lot of space for me! I'll never fill those up - we don't keep books, we release them. The living room and dining room are one long room - I can't wait. I've been saving up a little each month to get a new dining room set and I finally get to use it!

This is the kitchen. It's so great... it has a trash compactor, AND the stove is GAS! Yay!

This is the dinette, which will be my office. It's actually pretty big and it will be perfect because it looks out over the backyard!

Yes! We finally get a backyard! Jamie and Cassie are most excited about this development. It's not a huge yard, but it's not small either, so it will be great for them to run around in. And because my office will look out over the yard, I can work and watch them at the same time!

... and a final shot of Jamie and Cassie clowning around. Oh, and Tom gets his own room (it's a 4 bedroom, which means the bedrooms are kind of small, but it's a concession I'm willing to make) so he can play computer games WITH the volume on... until it gets to loud and I start bitching for him to turn it down, already!

The movers come April 20th. I swear I have the town wired, I got a great deal from a friend of a client :-) I'm glad, I don't want to do the "move ourself" thing again, we've moved twice in 3 years. I'm done.

It looks like there are other kids in the neighborhood too, so that's great, of course! And it has sidewalks. I know, I'm a freak. I hate neighborhoods that have no sidewalks or sidewalks only one side... what's up with that?

Another sombreo photo

My friend, Amy, sent me this one (I also hear that she's the one that told on me!)... anyway... so, am I red from embarassment or red from intoxication? Inquiring minds want to know!

Good ideas. Jamie vs. Cassie

Ok, so maybe it isn't really Jamie vs. Cassie... more of a comparison.

We've always known that we have two very different children. They really are nothing alike. However, I noticed something today that just demonstrates this to a "T".

When Jamie was 3, his big thing was saying something (like "lets get some ice cream"). Shortly after, he would follow it with one simple question,"Dat good idea?" It almost always assured him of what he wanted.

Cassie on the other hand. If she says,"Lets get some ice cream", I'll usually respond,"After we clean up." Or something similiar. Her response? "Dat NOT good idea!!!!"

It is amazing how similiar they are even in being different. There is really no way Cassie can remember Jamie using almost that exact phrase, but she now uses it constantly just like he used to.

I try not to laugh at her...she looks all serious...and I am pretty sure "Dat NOT good idea" if I want her to grow out of it.

Girl's Night Out!

Okay, Mom's Night Out... whatever... so we met up at Pappasito's... 10 of us and had margaritas and Mexican food. Yum! Like 4 of us split 3 pitchers of margaritas... yeah, I was feeling good! :-)

My birthday was a couple of days ago. Dy just had to be the smart ass and buy me a book. It's called Naughty Cakes... I died laughing! Unfortunately, I just realized I left it in Angela's van... oops. I'll have to get it from her later. Someone (no one will fess up yet, but I will find out and hunt you down, whoever you are) told so they did their birthday cheer thingy and I had to take my picture with a huge freaking blue sombreo on my head. LOL.

Went bowling. Okay, I'm the world's worst bowler. Seriously. Even though we were using the bumpers! How sad is that? Neat little place, I've not been bowling in years! It was Xtreme Bowling at AMF/Showplace... fun!

Oh yeah, the picture...

13 Years And He's Still Alive

So, today is our 13th wedding anniversary. Yes, I have been married to this loveable geek for 13 long years :-) After yesterday, he redeemed himself by having flowers delivered. Funny part? I was at the post office when they came *laugh* So he took the delivery! Ah, the joys of having a home office.

This is my gift, apparently. Yes, folks, this is a remote-controlled Video Card. ((listening to the crickets)). Yeah, I'm not sure I "get it" either. I was watching something on his computer hooked up to the TV and had to keep getting up to pause it and stuff and laughed that we needed a remote control for the thing. So, he got it. Since then, we've figured out how to burn stuff to DVD, which I prefer anyway... But I'm reserving judgement until I see what exactly it can do for me... so far, Ummmm... okay, thanks, honey. I have a wishlist for a reason, dear...

Of course, I got him nothing for an anniversary because we never do gifts, we just try to go out to dinner so I guess I should shut up, but he got a ROCKIN' birthday from me in January...

And just so you can't make all the fun of him, here's are wedding photo... March 3, 1993. Yes, that's my hair. Yes, I did that on purpose. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Stop laughing... stop it!

Happy Birthday To Me.... I guess...

So today is the 2nd anniversary of my 29th birthday. Yes, folks, that's right, I'm turning 29 again. I'm going to keep turning 29 until I can't. Spent the day working my rear off. I'm so burned out right now, there's only one of me, but I feel like there needs to be at least 5 of me. My poor kids are starting to wonder where their mommy went. Ugh. I had my hair done yesterday, highlighted, it looks really brassy, hopefully it will be toned down a little bit before I go out with friends on Saturday night (which I so completely and utterly need right now!). I also got myself a cradle for my Treo... ahhh... no more having two cords, it's really nice and has a very small footprint. Yay! Other than that, it was a pretty sucky day. The kids were fighting, I was working and feeling overwhelmed. Just six more weeks. Usually things get a little more calm after April 15th. I did hire someone to come in and do a little administrative stuff (very part time) so that's helped. It doesn't really make sense because my work is pretty much done by that time, but that seems to be the cycle. Tomorrow is our 13th anniversary so Tom and I are going out to dinner while his mom watches the kids.

Anyway, so it kinda sucked overall really. I got a lot of nice ecards from friends and colleagues, it was so nice! Next year I must remember to turn the phone off and take the day off. Just too much stress. Perhaps part of it is that I'm really not okay with being over 30. I know you are supposed to be, but I'm not, dammit. I feel old and tired. Ick.

Good news? We are thinking of moving. We love apartment living, but it's gotten to small for us, the kids and all the business stuff. We want a house with a yard for the kids to play in. We'll see...

Anyway... I have pictures! This one is of Cassie asleep. She threw a fit until Tom found earrings for her to sleep in. What a litle diva!

Tom will probably be mortified that I'm sharing this, but it's so freaking funny. These two chew EXACTLY the same... like rats! We have been teaching Jamie to chew with his mouth closed and it's all I can do not to crack up at the dinner table watching them.
