Tom is a sucker...

So, we went to a little party on Saturday... The kids had fun, but the water slide was overtaken with big kids that weren't really behaving themselves. So the first time down, Jamie gets kicked and Cassie gets pinned underneath.

Tom, being the over-protective daddy bear, without thinking says "it's okay, we'll buy you a blow up water slide". Ummm... hello?!?! Jamie is old enough to know that that is not the same thing as directing the water hose down the playscape.

FOUR hours later, there are no water slides in Austin - you think? It's like not really Summer anymore! So we compromise (ha!) and the kids now have their own combo jumpy house with slide. Yes, it was expensive, but the trade off was that Jamie has agreed to have a birthday party at home to help with the costs (luckily the kid is learning about money and how much things are, so he knew the budget going in and this was over that budget).

So, without further ado, here is further proof that Tom is a sucker dad, my kids are completely spoiled and I will do anything to entertain them for a day. *laugh*

The slide wasn't very slide-worthy, so we slathered it in Armor-All, works great now -- but I took a video of them going down it before we slicked it... too funny!

Here they are setting it up:
... and blowing it up:
... and cleaning up so they can jump:
And jumping:

... And... awwww... they are so cute together!

Haircut for Jamie - and a funny...

Jamie got a haircut today. Badly needed too!

So I'm talking to the lady cutting his hair and she asks what I do and I say I'm a bookkeeper. Jamie quips, "Yeah, my mom keeps a LOT of books" Okay, I know I have a book addiction, but does he really think my job is to keep watch over the mounds of to-be-read books on my shelves? *laugh*

Mommy Pajama Party & Kids Will Play

My friends and I have a mommy's slumber party twice a year (well, that's a new tradition we started earlier this year). It's a lot of fun. No kids, just us, lots of alcoholic beverages, snacks and board games. Nothing too wild ;)

Anyway, as you can see from my mobblogging, that was last night. A good time was had by all. :) Many thanks to my good friend, Crystal :)

As part of the deal, her 3 kids and husband had to leave *laugh* so they came over here to stay with Tom. The husbands are such good sports - no really, 5 kids, 2 guys and 4 pizzas. *laugh*

Anyway... this morning I came home looking for pictures. I had 7 that were totally black and this one, which is blurry and has the little girl next door in it but no other kids. Thanks, Tom. In his defense, the camera is making a weird noise. Sigh... I want a new camera, but I'm trying to save up for the one I absolutely want. LOL. So everyone sending "hang in there" vibes for my little crappy camera! ;)

Magazines! Get your magazines!

Geezus, do the school fundraisers ever end? I'm so NOT a good sales person, but here goes...

Yeah, so if you are gonna order a magazine or renew one of yours anyway, please use the following link so the school gets credit:

http://store.gafundraising.com
School ID: 666149

Student Last Name: Beauchamp

Order away. I renewed one of mine. It's not up for a few months, but I may as well. Jamie goes to a pretty small school, so any help is appreciated! Yes, I will continue to sell you crap you may or may not want throughout the year. Suck it up.

Snack Notes

Jamie takes a snack every day for their mid-morning snack. I always put a little "lunch box note" in it so he knows I'm thinking of him. It's kind of our thing. I've done it since pre-school. Anyway, this year, he's starting writing me notes back - "thank you" "I love you" etc etc... here's the latest one:

This is what I sent with his snack....

And this is what he wrote on the back. I think it's so cute that he puts it back in his snack container so I'll find it. What a little love bug!

Tom and ramblings of today...

So, I have this camera that we got in 2003, it was top of the line back then, a Sony Mavica CD 4 megapixel. A year or two ago, it stopped working, kept giving me this annoying disc access error. I've been fighting with indoor pictures ever since. I'm currently salivating over a Cannon Rebel and have started to save Best Buy gift cards (from Coke Rewards and hopefully mypoints will start carrying them). I only have $150 in cards, but maybe for Christmas I can make up the difference and get me a nice new SLR camera. ANYWAY... so last week, I dug out the old Sony and did some searching online. Apparently, after a while, these cameras get finicky and only work well with the Sony pocket CDs... so off to Wolf Camera I go hoping to find the discs because you cannot find them ANYWHERE anymore - they had 'em! It's working now. How sad is it that I can take better indoor pictures with my old clunker (OMG, download time is ridiculous!) than my newer one? LOL!

Thank you, Tom, for letting me annoy you while I played with the settings ;)

It does only so-so micro, which is what I use for my food recipes on RecipeZaar, so I'll have to play with that and my new one to see which works best until I can get my shiny new camera... :)

I also got 3 new shirts, Tom signed the kids up for soccer... AND we had a new toilet installed (don't even ask). I'm tired!

House & Boring Ramblings...

Not too much is going on right now. It's pretty quiet around here. Jamie is back in school and he LOVES his new teacher and the kids in his class. This year is SO much different than last year. Last year, he had a very rowdy group of kids in his class and the class was always loud and out of control. This year, it seems to be completely different and he really likes it. Jamie likes rules and order and this seems to be what he's getting this year. He has his first real "test" on Monday - a spelling test! We've been practicing every night, making him write them. Which is good, his penmanship is really bad - 'course it's not like Tom and I have beautiful handwriting or anything ;)

Cassie is adjusting to being without Jamie during the day again. We are considering signing her up for the Spring session at a preschool so she can get some exposure to that. Tom decided not to push the district for speech help for her, I think he just doesn't want to deal with the fight. I dunno, maybe she will get better. The lady there did say she would get together some worksheets for her. Hopefully Tom remembers to ask her for them.

Me? I'm working, working and working some more. It's been a pretty crazy month the time of the year. Usually it's pretty laid back, but for whatever reason, I've been going nuts, so much to do and everyone wants special projects done this month. I can pawn some of it off on subcontractors, but a lot of it is stuff I'm just going to have to do. I'll survive ;)

Tom is Tom. Plays World of Warcraft too much. Denies playing WOW too much. That's pretty much how it goes. He and I did clean out the garage. It's almost done, just a few things that need to be moved around. He also got a new tool bench to hold all his junk. Pics coming of my new and improved garage soon. I also have 3 mini-blinds up. *laugh* We just gotta measure and buy for the rest of the house.

Speaking of house stuff... we decided to buy this one. After our first homeownership disaster 9 years ago, I've been really reluctant to buy again. But, let's face it, we really do need to buy again, for tax reasons and for stability reasons for the kids. And we absolutely love this house and our neighbors and the schools and the neighborhood and the area. It's perfect for us. We loved it when we moved in April 2006 and we still love it, so I guess it's a sign. The landlord was wanting to sell it, so we are in the process of buying it. We close next week. It actually feels pretty good that we were approved, I knew it wouldn't be a huge problem, but this was all based on our income from our business, that's a pretty awesome feeling.

So, of course, we have all these grand plans for the house. We organized the garage and are putting up regular mini-blinds. We want to concrete in the front patio area (right now it's covered with mostly dirt and make a real walkway out to the sidewalk instead of to the driveway. The place needs new windows. I'd like to build a little covered patio area in the backyard to hang out in during the Summer and put up new siding and privacy fencing, but that will have to wait a while, first things first ;)

Book Nerd Alert...

Okay, so Bill Clinton is coming to Book People here in Austin. Yes, I like love Bill Clinton. He's fabulous. If I can round up someone to go with me, I'm probably going to go, just to hear him speak... and I can get a book signed... BUT... I cannot, apparently, have my picture taken with him :( They aren't allowing anything except the book in the signing room. I know it's about security, but still. How much does that suck?

Edit: Okay, it looks like he's not speaking, just signing books for the book tour, so that makes me feel better if I don't go... the camera thing sucks though.

Labor Day Weekend

First, I put up some pics Cassie took too, head over to If You Give A Kid A Camera... to see 'em!

Whew! What a weekend, Labor Day or no! Tom and I finally got sick of the garage. It was a mess. Stuff piled everywhere with no where to put it. So, off we go to Home Depot and Lowes to look at garage shelves and some sort of workshop station for Tom for all his tool crap.

We found 2 large shelving units to hold all the junk we have out there plus this awesome tool bench/work area for Tom and all his tools. Maybe we will be able to find everything now! I'll post pics of my garage when it's done :) *laugh* Yes, this is my life, people! We also gave away a lot of our unused junk on Freecycle.

It started raining (we spent almost all day out there) and the kids were trying to catch rain - hey, this is Texas Snow, Y'all! (groan)

Lookit how big they look! When did they grow? Where was I?

Here's Tom putting stuff together... Hehehehe... he was EXHAUSTED by the time we all came inside.
